St Swithun of Winchester

Saint Swithun is Winchester’s own Saint, renowned for his remarkable effect on the weather. His Feast day is July the 15th.

 St Swithun's day if thou dost rain
For forty days it will remain
St Swithun's day if thou be fair
For forty days 'twill rain nae mare 

This badge is an adapted copy of the many examples of the more famous St Thomas Becket badges, found all over England, and indeed Europe.

 There are a wide range of St Thomas' in terms of quality. This falls in the middle. At one end, finely detailed three dimensional positive backplate castings, and at the other very crude mitred heads with no inscription and cartoon features.
